BECOMING A MEMBER

Application for membership must be made in writing using the official Application Form and shall be signed by the candidate. Applications must be accompanied by a list of the vehicles to be approved and the appropriate documentation requested on the application form. The appropriate fee for the vehicle inspections must be attached to the application.

On receipt of a completed application form, the Chief Executive will forward the list of vehicles to the approvals inspector. Once the vehicles have been approved, the Chief Executive will bring the application for membership to the next meeting of the Executive or the Council. Every candidate must be proposed by one member and seconded by another member.


Criteria for Membership

Membership is comprised of member companies, all of whom shall be bona fide coach operators engaged in the business of coach tourism, private hire and/or scheduled services.

Any operator who fully satisfies the Failte Ireland/CTTC standards shall be eligible to apply for membership.

A minimum of two vehicles must be approved under the star classification system.
One of these coaches must be at least 12 metres in length and the second at least 8.5.metres in length. Both must be at least 2.4 metres in width and to full coach specification. One of these coaches must be under 3 years old and the other one under 7 years, and must be available for hire at all times for tourism work.

Alternatively a coach operator can be approved with two coaches of 8 metres in length provided that both vehicles are under 3 years old and to full coach specification.


Conditions for Failte Ireland/CTTC Approval

1. Each Operator:

  • To hold a current European Community Licence with all vehicles listed on the Vehicle Identification Schedule.
  • To hold a current PSV Licence and where applicable a DOE Certificate.
  • To comply with the requirements of the Road Traffic Acts and any other relevant legislation.
  • To comply with all relevant EU Directives relating to the carriage of Passengers by road and to adhere to Failte Ireland standards.
  • Each operator must effect and keep in force a policy of motor insurance in the name of the company, which complies with the relevant Road Traffic legislation.
  • To be engaged in the business of coach tourism and to make available for annual inspection by the Appointed Approvals Inspector, all vehicles used for the carriage of tourists, together with all relevant documentation.
